Meditation — A possible remedy for perimenopausal symptoms

“Fluctuating hormones and disturbed sleep during perimenopause add to normal life stress, so it’s no wonder that women find this time in life, even more stressful.”
— Patti Montella

According to Gallup’s 2021 State of the Global Workplace report, U.S. workers are the most stressed employees in the world. Add fluctuating hormones and disturbed sleep in the years leading to menopause to the mix, and it’s no wonder that women find this time in life even more stressful.

At the Translational Science Symposium on Midlife Wellbeing, held in advance of the 2021 Annual Meeting of the North American Menopause Society, Patti Montella, Senior Faculty with the global non-profit, The Art of Living Foundation, and author of the #1 best-selling book, Becoming Unshakeable: Wisdom Learned on the Journey to Inner Freedom, shared insights and research on breathing and meditation practices that can help healthcare providers and patients address burnout and mitigate symptoms.

In addition, Ms. Montella shared six ways that breathing practices are shown to have a powerful effect on anyone, but particularly perimenopausal women.

Breathe To Relax

Yogic breathing and meditation techniques may just be the key to better health and a more peaceful and productive mind. These techniques are shown to:

  • Safely release anxiety and depression
  • Improve sleep
  • Decrease trauma symptoms
  • Enhance brain activity
  • Increase resilience
  • Boost immunity
  • Improve life satisfaction

Empowering practitioners and patients with evidence-based breathing and meditation protocols offer access to a practical and effective approach to improving overall health, happiness, and quality of life.

This information was presented at the Translational Science Symposium “Charting the Path to Health in Midlife and Beyond: The Biology and Practice of Wellness” held in advance of the 2021 Annual Meeting of The North American Menopause Society in Washington, DC.
