Share your experience and help us fill in the perimenopause knowledge gap.
Women Living Better’s research has been informed by the participation of thousands of women over 10 years. Participation in our first survey substantiated the need for better perimenopause information. Our second survey allowed us to demonstrate that symptoms can begin before very noticeable menstrual cycle changes, helped us illustrate a much broader set of symptoms, and allowed us to define what ‘not feeling like myself’ in perimenopause means. We aren’t done. Please share your experience and help us do more!

Participate in Research: WLB Wearables Study

4YouandMe and Women Living Better are recruiting participants for ‘Our Transitions’ – a digital health study designed to close the long-standing knowledge gap surrounding the lived experience of perimenopause, funded by the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. Participants will use a bespoke digital health platform that integrates a custom smartphone study app and wearable technologies to combine granular, real-world app-reported, objectively measured data and user-contributed inputs to generate insights. The goal of Our Transitions is to capture novel information beginning with the earliest part of the path to menopause — before significant menstrual changes — through to the final menstrual period using personal digital health technologies.

Polls

Polls allow you to see how your symptoms compare to others instantly. They can validate that you are not alone. The results contribute to our decisions about what to incorporate into future research. When something is submitted several times in our open response forms below, we add it to a poll and see how often it gets selected.

new body odor
I started to have BO now that I’d never had before. I smell!

Body Odor Changes

Have you noticed a change in your body odor during the menopausal transition?

FEATURED POLL

New Changes

Which of these new changes have you noticed in your late 30s/40s?

I had been running global projects for years and I suddenly found myself struggling to make decisions, I was filled with self-doubt. Lost so much confidence in myself.
Tingling/prickling in hands and feet. Palpitations. Random muscle twinges, numbness, and spasms. Feeling of ‘rushing’ energy through the body. Sudden chills and feeling freezing cold. Feeling of vibration throughout the body.
Aches in weird places….around my arm and armpit.
Muscle tension – I can be reading, watching tv, or lying in bed thinking about everyday things, and I realize that my muscles are so tense that my hands, feet, back, my whole body actually, are contorted.

New Aches and Pains

Which aches and pains are you experiencing for the first time in your late 30s/40s?

Pre-Menstrual Flu-ishness

Do you feel flu-ish before your period arrives, but then feel fine?

I’m feeling cold-like symptoms a day or two before my cycle begins.
A few days mid to late-cycle I feel like I have a cold, but symptoms only last 1-2 days.
I’ve been noticing changes: more acne, darker facial hair at mustache and cheekbones, hair slightly falling out, slower skin turnover.
Acne on my face when I’d never had it before, not even as a teenager.

Hair and Skin Changes

Which hair and skin-related changes are you experiencing for the first time in your late 30s/40s?

Digestive Changes

Which digestive-related changes are you experiencing more or for the first time in your late 30s/40s?

When I turned 42 I started having severe digestive issues when my period would start or finish that spilled over to every day.
Flatulence. Ugh.

Open Response Forms

These forms allow for more in-depth sharing.  Experiences shared here have become items in our large research surveys and items in our polls. This spaces helps us get a sense of specific aspects of perimenopause that require more attention.

SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE

We’d love to hear what lesser-known symptoms you’ve experienced that you think might be linked to hormonal changes.

There is so much yet to be understood about this phase in women’s lives and we believe that experiences — shared anonymously and in summary — can make a difference.

We're specifically looking for input on symptoms aside from the better-known ones like night sweats, hot flashes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, headaches, low libido and heavier flow.

It’s important to us that you know how what you share with us on the site might be used:
  1. We plan to share information on this site so that women don’t feel alone.
  2. We hope to share results with the scientific research community about symptoms that should be incorporated into future studies about this life phase.
  3. We aim to share results with the healthcare providers.
